Fertility Test: Individual or Couple

I want a free first consultation

Why should you have a fertility test?

A fertility test is a simple, quick check-up that will tell you the current state of your reproductive health.

Both women and men tend to assume they have no fertility issues. However, specialists are encountering more and more cases of infertility — and not only because of delayed parenthood. We know that ovarian reserve declines and sperm quality decreases with age, but there are also other conditions that affect reproductive capacity and have a better prognosis when diagnosed early.

Having a regular fertility test — just as you would have an annual health check-up — will help you avoid unpleasant surprises and make timely decisions if any issues arise.

Female fertility test

The average age of motherhood has been rising, but a woman’s peak fertile years remain the same: fertility is optimal up to around age 30 and then begins to decline. According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, women under 30 have roughly a 25 % chance of conceiving in any given menstrual cycle with unprotected intercourse. After 30 the probability drops to about 20 %, and by age 40 it falls to just 5 %.

We recommend having a fertility test from the age of 30.

If you have a gynaecological condition such as endometriosis, it is advisable to start fertility testing earlier, as your ovarian reserve may be affected sooner than expected. If you experience symptoms that could be linked to such conditions, seeking specialist advice is also a good idea — many of these conditions take years to diagnose and are only discovered when patients consult a fertility specialist.

What does the fertility test include?

It is an assessment carried out by a fertility specialist. First, any personal and family history that may affect fertility will be reviewed, along with the woman’s gynaecological background.

Tests included:

Fertility assessment at Love Fertility: we carry out your hormone tests and anti-Müllerian hormone measurements directly at our clinic for your convenience

AMH – Anti-Müllerian Hormone blood test

A blood test is performed to measure your AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) level, the most objective marker for assessing ovarian reserve. This tells us about the quantity of eggs, but the result must be interpreted alongside your age and medical history, as egg quality is equally important.

High-definition ultrasound scans are available at Love Fertility clinics to provide comprehensive monitoring and an accurate diagnosis of your reproductive health.

Ultrasound scan

An ultrasound scan of the uterus and ovaries is performed (3D if necessary). At the uterine level, the scan rules out abnormalities of the uterine cavity — fibroids, polyps, etc. — that could hinder pregnancy and may in some cases require surgery. At the ovarian level, an initial assessment of ovarian reserve is made through an AFC – Antral Follicle Count, and conditions such as ovarian cysts or endometriosis are checked for.

With all these results, your specialist will provide a comprehensive assessment and inform you about the state of your fertility. If you are not planning a pregnancy in the near future, she may recommend periodic check-ups or egg freezing (vitrification) if there is a risk of declining fertility. If, on the other hand, you are experiencing difficulty conceiving, she will guide you towards the techniques that can help.
