Fertile Chip / ZyMot ICSI: Microfluidic Sperm Selection

Advanced sperm selection using Fertile Chip microfluidic technology to reduce sperm DNA fragmentation in IVF treatments

What is ZyMot ICSI (Fertile Chip)?

The Fertile Chip — also known as ZyMot ICSI — is a microfluidic sperm selection system that mimics the conditions of the female reproductive tract, obtaining the best sperm with improved morphology, motility, and low double-strand DNA fragmentation rates. These selected sperm are then used to fertilise the eggs through IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

The chip consists of two chambers connected by a microfluidic channel used for the selection and sperm preparation of spermatozoa free from double-strand DNA fragmentation. It also eliminates the need for semen sample centrifugation and reduces the likelihood of single-strand DNA fragmentation in the recovered sperm.

Thanks to this increasingly popular technique, the risk of recurrent miscarriage poor-quality embryos, and implantation failure is significantly reduced.

The use of Fertile Chip / ZyMot ICSI is especially recommended when a previous COMET FERTILITY test has shown double-strand fragmentation above 60 %. However, it is a technique we use more and more in our laboratory given the excellent results it delivers.

Important update on Fertile Chip® / Zymot ICSI®

The Fertile Chip® device (later known as Zymot ICSI®), which has been used for years for sperm selection in cases of double-strand DNA fragmentation, is no longer being manufactured and is currently unavailable.

At Love Fertility Clinic, we continue to offer this selection approach through an advanced microfluidic technique developed in-house by our embryology team. This method reproduces and enhances the original system, allowing the selection of high-quality sperm with even improved outcomes.

You can find more information about this technique on our sperm selection using microfluidic technology page.
